ESCC’s old guard keep the promotion hunt alive

The ESCC 1st XI beat Nacton in a tense and exciting match. Man-of-the-match, Scott Hornsby, scored an unbeaten 58, took three wickets and took one catch, helping Stonham to victory.
After a shaky start with the bat, Jonny Hails (captain) started the recovery with an almighty whack straight back over the bowler’s head for four. Simon Edgar then steadied the ship and formed an excellent parternship with Hornsby to help Stonham score a respectable total of 192. After a another shaky start, this time with the ball, Colin Macrow and Hornsby steadied the ship again and Nacton ended up about 20 runs behind in the run chase. Charlie Tunstall also took a couple of sublime catches in the field.

The second team did not have a fixture but both teams have games at the weekend against Braintree II and Elmswell.
