Stonham’s Sunday side up to third place

Stonham’s Sunday team beat Worlington II to make it five wins in six games and are now sitting in third place in Division 4 of the the Hunts County Bats League. With only one wicket remaining and chasing a low total of 140 runs, Paul Storer and Simon Edgar saw Stonham safely home to victory. A win against fourth place Woolpit Academy next weekend should
give Stonham a great chance to secure promotion.

Last weekend’s opening ceremony for Stonham’s new pavilion was extremely successful. It was great to see many familar faces come along to celebrate the result of a lot of hard work from various members, vice presidents,
friends of the club, local councils and trusts. The official opening was carried out by the Porch family whose building company designed and built Stonham’s beautiful new home.

On Saturday the first team’s game was also against Worlington. The match was closely poised with Worlington scoring 94 runs for 4 wickets, chasing a target of 168 to win.
However, steady rainfall resulted in the match being abandoned. Stonham were awarded 12 league points for the wickets and runs they accumulated, which should be enough to secure Division 5 status for next season.
