Chairman’s end of season message

Although there remains the Annual General Meeting to come on November 14th (details below) this year’s action concluded on Saturday with the Annual Dinner and Presentation which was held at The Stowupland Crown.

It was a very enjoyable occasion, and, after an excellent meal – thanks Chris and staff – the presentations for the season’s achievements were made. Among those presentations Stephen Lewis was named 1st XI Player of the year, Luke Edgar won the Sunday side’s equivalent award, Scott Eade took the Magic Moment Award and Alex Crane was named Young Player of the Year. Scott’s magic ‘moment’ in fact lasted for two days as he achieved a remarkable ‘double’ with centuries on both days that weekend. Not many players can say that they have done that!

This has been a significant year for the club with the ‘Dream’ – our own pavilion – finally being realised. The new facility has transformed the experience of playing cricket at Earl Stonham, not only for our teams, but for visitors, too. We are grateful for the continuing support of our vice-presidents, for the terrific construction job done by David and his team at Porch Builders and for the help received from Mid-Suffolk District Council, Councillor Matthew Hicks, The Earl Stonham Trust and Earl Stonham Parish Council.

The ground has continued to improve under Simon’s meticulous stewardship and, as well as looking great on match days, has become a joy to bat on (and harder work and a test of skill for the bowlers!).

The Annual General Meeting will conclude the programme for the year and will take place on Monday, November 14th at the pavilion starting at 7.30 pm. New members would be more than welcome to join us for that meeting. For any further details about the club, talk to any member or look at our excellent website.
