2021 Season News

ESCC win emphatically at Elmstead

The Saturday XI picked up their first win of the season in emphatic fashion away at Elmstead Grasshoppers CC.

After losing the toss Elmstead elected to bat first and got off to a good start punishing anything short, Ant Stowe claimed the first wicket of the match bowling Parikh.

Stonham then got more of a grip on the game and runs were hard to flow for the hosts, Stephen Lewis’s bowling and some good fielding from ESCC built the pressure, and wickets started to fall. Dan Snell (who was wicketkeeping) took two smart stumpings which helped Stephen Lewis claim his second successive “Fifer” of the season. Finishing on figures of  5-20; Stephen Stowe then claimed the final wicket, bowling Elmstead out for 132.

Much like Elmstead’s innings Stonham got off to a good start. Stephen Lewis and Sam Fenning were playing expansively and running well between the wickets until Fenning edged one behind to Elmstead’s Keeper G. Cook. Scott Eade joined Lewis and the pair went about chasing Elmstead’s total of 132, they did this with little trouble both bringing up their half centuries and winning the game in the 23rd over.

This Saturday we host Great Bromley.
