2014 Season News

Chairman’s start of season message

Anyone for bog-snorkelling? I only ask because it may well be, if the weather continues as it has for the past months, that we shall have to invent a new game – marsh cricket, maybe – given the current state of the playing field.

During the winter we have had a team playing in the Winter Indoor League at Culford School. The results have been mixed but it has enabled some of our players to get some useful out-of-season practice.

Our plan to put proper changing-rooms and showers at the ground is proving difficult. We were very disappointed that we had to turn down a grant of £20,000 from Viridor Credits, partly due to the fact that we were still well short of the required funds to go ahead with the original plan.

However we are working on a new idea and will be sharing details of that as soon as we have them sorted out, which should be very soon.
Not for the first time I urge you to ‘watch this space!’

In the meantime the fixture lists for both Saturday and Sunday sides are all in place, with the first Saturday match scheduled for Easter Saturday, April 19th.

The captains for the coming season are Jonny Hails, who did such a good job last season, for the 1st XI, and one of our young guns, Luke Edgar, for the Sunday side. We wish them every success.

The Monday evening coaching sessions will begin in May. All youngsters are welcome to attend. Further details in April from any club member, from this website and on the village noticeboards.
