Chairman’s message
The final games of the season approach and the Saturday XI have secured their Division 5 place again for 2015 with a 50 run win against Harwich and Dovercourt. That win broke a run of defeats and we hope that the team will finish with another victory on Saturday against Bury III.
The Sunday side lost narrowly to Battisford despite 50s from Scott Eade and Sam Fenning. Chasing 192 the innings took time to gain momentum and left the lower order with too much to do. There are two Sunday games left and at least one win is required to maintain the Division 4 spot.
The annual Gary Small Memorial game, played between the President’s XI and the Chairman’s XI on August 24th was an enjoyable occasion with past and current members, Vice-Presidents and young players enjoying a ‘Double 20/20 match’, eventually won by the President’s side. Adding to the fun were the family rivalries with fathers and sons, brothers, cousins, and uncles and nephews pitted against each other by some canny team selection. There were plenty of interested spectators including some of Gary’s family, and many of the family of John Player, one-time chairman of the club, who support the event each year.
Thoughts are now turning to the Autumn groundwork, the Annual Dinner and Presentation Evening, to be held this year at Stowmarket Golf Club on October 18th (tickets now available at £25 per head) and The AGM which takes place on Monday, November 3rd.
