Chairman’s end of season message
Another season has ended with both our sides achieving respectable league positions. The Saturday side never quite lived up to their flying start but, nonetheless, had some impressive victories. There were some good individual contributions but the wins often came from real team efforts with everyone contributing.
The Sunday XI was safe before the last weekend of the season and several batsmen made good contributions during the last few weeks. The bowlers stuck to their task manfully and kept going even when wickets were hard to come by. Thanks to the captains of both sides for all their hard work again this year. Thanks also to Simon for all his time and work on the ground, and to Luke who has spent a considerable amount of time assisting him.
The Presidents XI v Chairman’s XI Gary Small Memorial Match was, as ever, an enjoyable occasion. There was a good attendance and the game was won by the President’s XI. As usual several of the (John) Player family played, along with Vice-Presidents, younger club members and some 1st and 2nd XI players. There were a number of entertaining match-ups with dads, brothers and other relations on opposing sides.
Now there remains the Autumn groundwork to complete, followed by the Dinner and the A.G.M. All members, Vice-Presidents, and friends of the club are welcome to attend the Annual Dinner and Presentation Night at Stowmarket Golf Club on October 18th. Details, and tickets, are available from Simon Edgar, David Eade and Trevor Spall.
