    First win for Stonham!

    Last weekend Stonham’s Saturday side managed to get back to winning ways by beating Hadleigh. Whilst the royal wedding was taking place, Farmer Harry (Wrinch) blasted Stonham off to a great start with a solid 52 runs, forming a partnership with Colin Macrow who held the innings together with an excellent 83. Ant Stowe was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets, which pushes him onto the 2018 Suffolk bowling leader board. This weekend the 1st team have two matches, one at home against Kelvedon and Feering II and a bank holiday Monday fixture away at Worlington.     2018 fixture lists

    The 1st and 2nd XI team fixtures for the 2018 season have been published. The first team will face four sides that weren’t playing in the Division 5 of the Two Counties League last season: Brightlingsea, Hadleigh, Worlington, St Oysth and local rivals Stowupland. St Osyth, named after a 7th century Saint and Princess, is supposedly the driest place in the country, although with the recent weather it’s pretty hard to imagine playing on a bone dry cricket wicket anytime soon!     Chairman’s winter message

    At the time of writing these notes it feels as if winter is never going to end and, as is often the case, the ground has soaked up so much water that there is little chance of doing the pre-season work any time soon. Could this be the year to hold The Earl Stonham Mud Race? There is plenty to look forward to this season with a number of local clubs in the same division of The Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Cricket Championship as our Saturday side and the Sunday XI now up into Division Three of the Hunts County Bats Suffolk Cricket League.     Happy New Year and averages!

    Last season’s statistics are now viewable online and sortable by each field. Also, the all time batting and all time bowling statistics have been updated. Congratulations to Simon Edgar (above), who scored a total of 251 runs for Stonham in 2017 which means that he’s now scored over 10,000 runs playing for ESCC – a tremendous achievement!
