Captain’s Update
As the season hurries into its final month, Stonham’s 1st XI find ourselves in the bottom third of Division 5 despite consistent team availability and some quality individual performances. With the current promotion and relegation format of the East Anglian Premier League we likely won’t know until after our final game whether one or two teams will be relegated from Division 5, but securing the points necessary to remain only in our current league position would see us safe no matter what happens in the top tier.
Recent victories against Ipswich II and Kelvedon II have been well deserved, and the side will now look forward with fresh confidence to the upcoming schedule. With three home games and an away trip to Needham Market before season’s close, only a maiden trip to St Osyth will see the team stray outside of mid-Suffolk in our quest to add further to the win column.
In amongst our final five fixtures of the season lies is the ever-popular President’s XI vs Chairman’s XI game, which again promises to be one of the highlights of the calendar. All are welcome to join us at the ground on the August Bank Holiday Sunday to enjoy the game, the laughs, the fantastic tea and our fully stocked bar.
Stephen Lewis, 1st XI Captain
