Close encounters 2

Last weekend Stonham’s Saturday side lost another close match, this time against Great Bromley. At one point when the players were arriving to the ground a
stretched limousine unexpectely pulled into the Earl Stonham village hall car park carrying just one Great Bromley player, even though there was probably just about enough room for their entire team!

Captain Tunstall won the toss and elected to bat first. Despite a good start to the innings, the runs dried up and Stonham only managed to post 160 on a wicket and sunny day where 200 would have been a par score. Scott Martin scored a classy half century, but nobody else could match his performance with the bat. However, even though Stonham looked dead and buried at times, fantastic positivity in the field lead to a thrilling finale. One of key the reasons for the fight-back was an incredible one-handed catch by Stuart Macrow diving to his left like a frog; surely a top contender for the “Magic Moment” award! With only 2 wickets remaining Great Bromley managed to score the 3 runs required from the final over to secure victory. The game was fought in good spirit and hopefully next time Stonham will win the next close encounter!

This weekend sees the Sunday side back in action against Elmswell and the Saturday side travel to Kesgrave.
