Chairman’s end of season message
Now that the dust has settled on the season we have reasons to be cheerful at the recent results achieved by our teams. Having endured a series of close finishes and narrow defeats the Saturday Two Counties side finally lived up to their promise by stringing together a series of wins in the last few games of the season to edge up to third from bottom. This had looked an unlikely outcome as recently as the beginning of August and they are to be congratulated on some really good performances.
Similarly the Sunday side, needing a win in their final game to avoid relegation, came up with the goods when it mattered and gained a decisive victory.
Thanks to the captains and vice-captains for their sterling efforts and refusal to be discouraged when times were tough.
Thanks also to Simon for all his time and work on the ground. The improvement in the wicket over recent years is, to a great extent, down to his efforts.
The Presidents XI v Chairman’s XI Gary Small Memorial Match was an enjoyable occasion, well-attended and narrowly won by the Chairman’s side. Thanks to all who joined in, including some of our Vice-Presidents, some of the younger club members and one of the dads, 1st and 2nd XI players and a couple of ex-stars.
Now everyone can take a deep breath, enjoy a break, and look forward to 2014 and the further challenges ahead.
Finally, all members, Vice-Presidents, and friends of the club are welcome to attend the Annual Dinner and Presentation Night at The Cedars Hotel on November 2nd. Details, and tickets, are available from Simon Edgar, David Eade and Trevor Spall.
